Kevin Johnson began his career in public safety in May 1992 as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician. Finding himself more and more interested in prehospital emergency medicine, Kevin enrolled in classes at Hudson Valley Community College, graduating in May 1996 as a Nationally Registered Paramedic. He was employed full time in emergency medical services until joining the Columbia County 911 team in August of 1997 as an Emergency Dispatcher.
In May of 2019, after serving 15 years as an Emergency Dispatcher I (Shift Supervisor), Kevin was promoted to the position of "Chief Dispatcher." As Chief Dispatcher, Kevin is responsible for day-to-day operations of the 911 Department and assists the 911 Director with administrative duties. He also serves as the department's CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) administrator and Certified Training Officer Coordinator, and is certified in dispatch quality assurance review (EMD-Q).
In addition to his full-time duties at Columbia County 911, Kevin is also Deputy EMS Coordinator (EMS Car 2) for Columbia County, a position he has held since 1998. As Deputy EMS Coordinator, Kevin has helped organize large-scale incidents and deployments, including the county's mutual aid response to New York City during the "Northeast Blackout of 2003," and the REMO Task Force 2 deployment to ground zero during the attacks of 9/11.
